Third Road Safety Bike Park

Thank you to all the sponsors who assisted us with the third Amashova Bike Park. It was built as a mountain bike track at Thornville Primary School in Pietermaritzburg. It was opened in October 2017 and the children have loved testing the track out – you will always see them supporting the cyclists on Amashova race day outside their school.

Second Road Safety Bike Park

Thank you to all our sponsors who assisted us in making this dream a reality. The second Amashova Road Safety Bike Park was completed in 2015. The children are being taught the importance of road safety and rules of the road. This project will go a long way to developing a group of children who will be responsible road users of the future!

We are working closely with Cycling KZN who will assist us in starting a cycling club at the school and the principal has identified two teachers to lead this project! We have provided them with all the equipment and paid for them to attend a 7-day UCI coaching course in April 2015.

We had the official opening of the Amashova Road Safety Bike Park in October 2015, which coincided with the beginning of transport month.

First Road Safety Bike Park

In light of the increasing demands of a rapidly growing city, we believe the Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic is well positioned to move forward with a significant redevelopment and push for our much acclaimed Road Safety Bike Park project. The City of Durban acknowledged this 2008 initiative in their “Imagine Durban” publication on innovation and sustainability and we are now ready to roll this concept out to other areas in desperate need of this unique school based road safety plan.

We build custom made cycle tracks at previously disadvantaged schools and supply bicycles and push bikes for the children to ride and learn road safety in a self-sustaining project the school runs. The first bike park was built at eThembeni School for the Physically Disabled and Visually Imparied. It is situated along the Amashova route in Inchanga and they children as great supporters of the event – you would have noticed them along the route cheering you on.
