Route Description

Route Description for the Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic 106km

1. The start is in Chief Albert Luthuli Street (Commercial Rd) outside the Pietermaritzburg City Hall.
2. 1.5 km Turn Right into Alexandra Rd and continue up Fox Hill onto the R56.
3. 9.0 km Ambleway Farm at the top of Fox Hill.
4. 18.0 km Turn left just after Thornville and go via the R603 to Camperdown.
5. 24.5 km The first water point is outside the Rainbow Chicken Farm, 24 kms from the start.
6. 30.0 km At the Umlaas Road intersection, turn right and ride under the railway bridge.
7. 32.0 km After approximately 500m, turn left onto the R103 to Camperdown.
8. 35.2 km Cross over the N3 into Camperdown.
9. 35.5 km Turn right and then another right about 100m further along.
10. 36.0 km Left turn out of the Camperdown Village onto the R103.
11. 38.0 km Right turn over the N3 and then immediately left and go parallel to the N3.
12. 40.0 km Go straight into Doonrug Drive at Cato Ridge.
13. 41.0 km Left into School Road and, after the subway opposite Dunbar Spar, turn right.
14. 42.5 km The second water point at Eskom is 42 kms from the start.
15. Continue along the R103 through Harrisons Flats.
16. 46.5 km At R103/Inchanga/Drummond/1000 Hills, turn left onto the R103.
17. 52.0 km Top of Inchanga – see stone and plaque.
18. 56.5 km The third water point is at the Comrades Wall of Honour, 56 kms into the race.
19. 58.5 km Top of Alverstone.
20. 63.0 km Pass Kearsney College and follow a very fast downhill section into Botha’s Hill.
21. 65.0 km Turn right into Kassier Road.
22. 68.5 km Turn left onto the M13 Highway at Shongweni.
23. 75.0 km The Gillitts Water Point is outside the Gillitts Station on the M13 75 kms into the race.
24. 79.5 km Continue on the M13, with the Fields Hill descent starting beneath the overhead bridge.
25. 95.5 km The last water point is at 45th Cutting outside the Engen garage 96 kms into the race.
26. 97.5 km Jan Smuts Highway ends in a descent followed by a SHARP LEFT to enter the outbound lanes of the N3 Western Freeway.
27. 98.0 km Continue along the N3 into Durban underneath the Tollgate Bridge.
28. Keep right and continue along David Webster Road
29. David Webster becomes Braam Fisher Road
30. Turn left into Samora Machel Road and keep right
31. Cycle into Masabalala Yengwa Avenue South Bound (contra flow)
32.The finish line is underneath the pedestrian bridge that connects Mustering Fields to Peoples Park
33. Ride on and turn right into Battery Beach road.
34. Pass under the M4 bridge and turn right into Suncoast Boulevard.
35. The hospitality area is to be found on the grassed area in front of the Suncoast hotel.

Route Description for the Tsogo Sun Amashova 65km Half Challenge

  1. Cyclists start in Drew Road in Cato Ridge at 05h30.
  2. They will turn left into School Road.
  3. They will turn left into Selby Road and come out under the subway. They will turn right at the four-way stop with Dunbar Spar in front of them.
  4. The first water point outside Eskom.
  5. The race continues long the R103 through Harrisons Flats.
  6. At R103/ Inchanga/Drummond/1000 Hills the race turns left onto the R103. (First cut off point)
  7. The second water point is situated at the Comrades Wall of Honour.
  8. The route then passes Kearsney College, where the route rapidly begins the decent with a very fast downhill section into Botha’s Hill. (Second cut off point)
  9. The cyclists turn right into Kassier Road.
  10. They then link up with the M13 at Shongweni where the route takes a left turn onto the M13 Highway.
  11. The Gillitts Water Point is situated outside the Gillitts Station on the M13 approximately.
  12. The cyclists continue along the M13, which includes the descent down Fields Hill.
  13. The last water point on the route is at 45th Cutting outside the Engen garage.
  14. Jan Smuts Highway ends in a sharp descent, where cyclists must turn SHARP LEFT to enter the outbound lanes of the N3 Western Freeway.
  15. They will continue along the N3 into Durban underneath the Tollgate Bridge.

  1. Start outside Lillies Quarter in Old Main Road, Hillcrest at 05h30.
  2. Travel along Old Main Road and then take the left glide off onto the M13.
  3. The Gillitts Water Point is situated outside the Gillitts Station on the M13.
  4. The cyclists continue on the M13, down Fields Hill.
  5. Please take care going down Fields Hill, slower cyclists must remain on the left hand side.
  6. The last water point on the route is at 45th Cutting outside the Engen garage.
  7. Jan Smuts Highway ends in a sharp descent, where cyclists must turn SHARP LEFT to enter the outbound lanes of the N3 Western Freeway.
